World Accreditation Day takes place on the 9th of June every year. Established by the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) and International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC), this annual event aims to raise awareness of the value of accreditation.

The theme for World Accreditation Day 2021 is 'Accreditation: Supporting the Implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)'.

In 2015, all UN member states adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. At the core of this resolution were 17 goals that were designed to deliver a better and more sustainable future for all of humanity.

One of those sustainable development goals was as follows:

• GOAL 9 - Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialisation, and foster innovation.

That last word - innovation - will be critical if we are to continue evolving while also preserving the environment for future generations. There is a certain amount of debate surrounding quality manuals, what exactly they are, and whether a quality manual is required for ISO 9001 certification.

Does ISO 9001 require a quality manual?

The answer to this question varies on a case-to-case basis. If you are interested in obtaining ISO 9001 certification, whether or not you need a quality manual depends on the format and structure of your QMS.
